At Connext, we offer three different slotters to suit a variety of customer needs, from DIY enthusiasts to professional contractors.
The EZ Slotter is an entry tool meant to meet the needs of small jobs or one time jobs ($99)
The Beam Boss Slotter has been in development for two years. It is a high quality tool meant for large jobs and professional contractors ($299)
The Pro Slotter is an industrial tool specifically designed to cut large timbers and support professional contractors. In addition to slotting, it is a great tool to cross-cut large timbers ($699)
Each slotter has a video to show its use below. A side by side comparison of each is available here.
Pro Slotter
This heavy-duty versatile tool works especially well with larger timbers as it clamps onto your beam conveniently.
Any full-sized chainsaw can be used to make the 1/4" slot required for the T-REX connector. (Most smaller electric chainsaws have a narrow bar and will not cut a 1/4” slot.)
We recommend the lightweight electric Stihl Chainsaw MSE 250 C-Q. This custom aluminum tool offers many options:
• Slots any size beam
• Square cuts beams up to 14” plus
• Creates tenons
Beam Boss
The Beam Boss is a professional tool meant to rapidly and easily slot multiple timbers. It has the following improvements:
• Beam Boss comes with simple spacers that allow it to easily work with any size beam from 3.5 to 8 inches. Additional sizes can be accommodated with washers.
• The slotter self centers with the spacers
• No requirement to secure (screw) the tool to the timber
• No requirement to drill hole in the chain saw bar
• Will cut diagonal or square slots
• Full tool quality
• Fast and easy to use
EZ Slotter
Designed for the DIY homeowner or the contractor with smaller jobs, the EZ Slotter is attached to a chainsaw to cut the 1/4” slot required for the Connext system.
• Slots beams up to 8”
• Cuts slots for diagonal bracing
“I’m so happy I decided to go for it, it made perfectly centered cuts in seconds. Brilliant engineering.”
